Common Dental Emergencies

Unexpected Tooth Pain

Severe tooth pain without an obvious cause is a signal that you need immediate dental attention. Possible reasons for tooth pain include:

  • Impacted teeth
  • Broken restorations or teeth
  • Deep cavities
  • Abscesses
  • Uncovered tooth roots
  • Advanced gum disease

Prompt treatment is crucial to prevent complications and improve outcomes.

Fractured or Chipped Teeth

A damaged tooth can cause anxiety, particularly if it is visible when you smile. Factors like internal decay, habitual grinding, or clenching at night can weaken teeth, making them susceptible to fractures or chips.

Lost Teeth

Losing a tooth due to an accident or sports injury is distressing but not uncommon. If the tooth can be retrieved and is in good condition, our dentists might be able to reinsert it. Otherwise, a dental bridge or implant may be necessary to restore the tooth.

First Aid Tip: If you retrieve a knocked-out tooth, rinse it gently with cool water (avoid touching the root), try to reinsert it into its socket without force, or, if that’s not possible, keep it in a glass of milk and get to our office as quickly as possible.
